BOOK BARN: Our Junior School Library The book barn in the junior school is the hub of many activities related to reading. It is the prime centre for the innovative project ‘Reading Programme’. The facility is large, artistically decorated and with greenery around. It spreads across an area of 128 sq. meters and caters to about 1500 students and 350 staff with a whooping collection of 11,000 books of varied subjects. It also boasts of a good collection of CD’s, VCD’s, Video and Audio cassettes’ which sums up to 150 and are used by the Reading Programme teachers and other subject teachers. The Book Barn is divided into 3 zones viz, • The Reference Nook • The Kids Theatre • The Reading Zone The Reference Nook Zone invites a regular flow of teachers who refer to our wide range of subject books, encyclopedias and other general books. There are cubicles provided for the teachers to sit and read. The Kids Theatre Zone has a plasma display, DVD and Video player for the students to see stories that they read in the Reading Programme period. In the Reading Zone, the reading programme facilitators take classes for students of Grade 3 and Grade 4, whereas for Grade 1 and 2 the teachers issue books from the library and take the lessons in the classes. Library tickets are issued to Grade 4 students and the entire staffs. Books are issued to Grade 4 students every week. Apart from books the library also stocks many magazines. Varied english, arabic and hindi news papers are kept in the cubicles for the staff to read. Activities held in the Book Barn The Book Barn is a part of all the activities organized in the school related to reading viz., DROP EVERYTHING AND READ (DEAR), Inter- class Group Read Aloud Competition, World Reader’s Day, World Book Day etc.
